Hey, hey hey, it's the balding editor geek again. How're ya'll?
The weather's been really nice here in Texas and I've been about as
busy as I can be without needing treatment for stress related disorders.
I'm not so sure it isn't a close thing at that.

One of my loyal readers complained that this ezine is just too big.
Shucks ma'am, I am, after all, from Texas. I'll grant you, not everything
is big in Texas, skeeters for example aren't all that big, I hardly ever
need to get out the shotgun for them, and chiggers are pretty small,
the dogs win most of the fights with them anyway. Seriously though,
you're supposed to skim through the ezine picking out the high spots.
I don't even try to make every link interesting to everybody. I try to
present enough diversity that any of my readers can find something
interesting. If your interests are as diversified as mine, then you'll
just have to spend as much time reading the ezine as I spend
writing it. Just don't hold me accountable for your loss of sleep.
*grin*

Our site went down for twenty four hours or so a couple of weeks
ago. Just a mix up, no big deal, but I got an email from a fan who
was practically in a panic about it. She said "got to have my
maxpatch". Thanks for the kind words.

I get a nice comment from one or another site visitor or ezine
reader every couple of days. I can't tell you how much that means
to me. It makes my day every time. This ezine isn't all that well
known it seems, our subscriber count is 1879 as I write this, and
has recently been growing at a fairly steady rate of one a day
for a good while now. That's quite an improvement over the two
or three a week we were gaining a year ago. I'd like to see it do
even better but what editor doesn't want more readers? *grin*

Enough babble. Let's get started.

Remember, your input is always welcome. We value your suggestions
and advice, and we're always willing to assist you in finding answers to
computer and Internet questions.

Our online feedback form: http://www.maxpatch.com/fefo.html

If you wish to remain anonymous then use a false email address on
the form (like fake@fake.com) and/or a false name. The form doesn't
access your email client (it's a CGI form), so your privacy is assured.
Your comments, on the form, are delivered to Phil, me (Don Crowder,
the editor) and, where appropriate, may be forwarded to one or more
of our regular contributors.

«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤» Humor «¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»

I always have a terrible time with the humor section of this ezine. I can
find funny jokes, and family-friendly jokes, but never one that's both.
I think I got lucky with this one. This was posted by Jonathan Dufour,
at Stanford University in June of 1996. I don't like capitalized words
but they seem so much a part of this joke that I haven't edited them out.

My wife and I were playfully arguing recently and I said something she
didn't like. "I ought to beat you up", she laughed. "Ahh, you're not
tough enough," I said. "Ok, maybe I'll shoot you with the shotgun",
she said. "Oh please, it's only a 20 gauge, you'll need a bigger gun
than that", I sneered. "In that case, maybe I'll just whack you with
the frying pan", she said. "I KNOW you don't know how to use that!"
I said.

Big, big, big, big, big, HUGE, big, BIG mistake.

That concludes another one, and, for a remarkable change, this issue
isn't oversize. I thought about adding a few more links to it, but this
is a holiday weekend and if I don't spend at least some time with my
wife there'll be "far reaching" consequences so I'm going to wrap this
one up and post it a day early.

I hope all my readers are blessed with love, luck and abundant
happiness. If you're a little short on any of these let me know.
I'll loan you some of mine. I have plenty to spare.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what can it
do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and use
regularly, the developers of that software need your support.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Warning . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
